Learning to Walk Is Hard Stuff

Babies are fun. And funny.

Hunter must take a million steps a day. He starts by walking then suddenly bolts to a belly first run. Then his body rocks like a hula dancer as he tries to balance. Then comes the diaper padded fall. I”m convinced that’s why babies wear diapers…to make the thousands of falls a softer landing. Babies aren’t quitters. Nope. They do this same thing over and over and over again until they get it right. Determination on steroids.

And they are almost always smiling at the end, right? When I saw this romper in Target, I knew it had to come home. Smiles All Around. Yep. That’s the cycle of walking.

I hope Hunter carries this “never give up” theme throughout his entire life. If one day, when he’s in his 30’s, he feels like not getting up after a fall, I’ll whip out these and other photos to remind him and his wife and his four kids and his dog and his cat, that quitting isn’t his style.

Walk on, Hunter. And keep smiling.
