While the internet may want you to think otherwise with all of its helpful articles and fantastic places for advice, being a mother is still a lot of hard work. There's a lot of focus, a lot of long nights, a lot of stress, and you need to maintain, like, everything on your to do list even though you now have another human being to care for. It's easy to get overwhelmed no matter how efficient or strong you are. So, let's take a look at learning how to deal with that feeling so that you can acknowledge it, deal with it, and then get on with your day while feeling calmer and much more inline with your needs. The reality is that all of our needs are different, but here are a few of my favorite ways to de-stress.

Write it all down: Sometimes simply getting to the bottom of that list of all of the things that are overwhelming you is one of the best things you can do. It just feels so good to write down that final thing and think “Done, that's all I'm worried about”. Sure, your list may be 40 pages long, but knowing that it's all done is great for your sense of control. When it's out on paper, it makes it seem much more do-able. It doesn't need to be a long-winded confessional or anything, so don't focus on format. Just list it all off like a grocery list if you want!.

Laugh: I can't stress enough how much laughter can help with feeling overwhelmed. Maybe it's a TV show or your little one doing something adorable or just some random thing on the internet. Laugh and you'll feel better. Even better than eating chocolate. Okay, so maybe I went a little far there, but you get my point. Laugh at anything and everything and allow that positive, silly energy to fill you up. Laughter is the best medicine when feeling overwhelmed by daily life as a mom.

Take some you time: Taking a bit of time to simply do something that is you-centered is important. Focus on something that will make you feel pampered and fulfilled and calm. Keeping your center and de-stressing is important for your overall strength. This will help you ward off feeling overwhelmed faster and easier when those moments do come up.

You are expected to do a lot when you're a parent, but taking care of yourself often slips off that list. Focus on dealing with your emotions when you feel overwhelmed and you'll be in a better place to handle life's challenges. Taking care of yourself also means that you can better take care of your child. Which, as we all know, is what life is all about. These three tips should help lead you down the path to processing and conquering the hardest moments of mom life.
